Chapter 1

This story is about a brave middle-aged man named Ramesh Nath from Durgapur city of West Bengal state of India. He was a handsome and brave man with a strong built and never used to believe in ghosts. An incident that happened with him changed his life and he never stayed in the city during the night.

Durgapur is a bustling and clean city and a well-planned city with wide roads and parks. Ramesh was a wealthy gold merchant owner of a jewellery shop in Kolkata. His business was prospering, so he decided to open another branch of his shop in Durgapur in September 1997.

He drives to Durgapur and selects a guest house to stay during his visit. Duration of his stay extended as he was not able to find a suitable shop at a prime place in Durgapur. He continued searching and soon found a suitable place for this new jewellery shop.

He was staying alone in the corner room on the first floor of the guest house. The room was large having a king-sized bed with a sofa set, a study table and ample space around with a nice washroom along with a bathtub.

The only problem with the room is that it has a single large window that opened to a graveyard. The guest house was located just beside a graveyard. All the corner rooms of that guest house had a window facing the graveyard.

Chapter 2

The guest house itself was large and frequented by travellers. The receptionist of the guest house used to warn each person checking into the corner rooms to close the window facing the graveyard after evening.

Same was told to Ramesh as well when he checked into the room. As he was busy with his work, he used to leave the guest house in the morning and return only in the night, so he never opened the window during his stay. After finalizing the deal of the jewellery shop he left for Kolkata.

A few months later, the jewellery shop was almost ready, he returned to Durgapur to inaugurate the shop. He stayed in the same guest house and requested the same room. In the evening after inaugurating the shop, he returned to his room and was feeling very tired and opened the window facing the graveyard to allow some fresh air to come into the room.

During the night, he made sure that the window was closed, and was fast asleep. At midnight, he woke up suddenly after he heard a sweet voice calling him by name. He switched on the lights and looked around the room, but there was nobody around.

He looked at the clock it was about 2: 15 AM. Ramesh never used to drink, so he thought that being very tired by the last day’s work his mind was playing tricks on him.

Chapter 3

Ramesh left for Kolkata the next day. He used to come to Durgapur every month for three-four days to check out the sales of the jewellery shop. Every time he used to check in that guest house, he requested the owner to reserve that corner room for him considering that room to be lucky for him and his business.

Ramesh used to leave the guest house in the morning and return in the night, so never used to open the window. Though one day he returned early and opened the window of his room to let in the fresh air. In the night he forgot to close the window properly and it was slightly open.

He was woken up again by that same voice that said: “Ramesh what are you doing come to me”.  He woke up and sat in bed. He thought that his brain is playing tricks. He saw the time in the clock it was around 2 AM.

He got up from the bed and went to the washroom and drank some water. His ear was alert to pick up any sound. He switched on the TV but put it on mute as he was trying to hear any sound.

A few hours later, he heard the same sweet voice calling him by the name “Ramesh what are you doing come to me”.  This time he knew for certain, that his brain was not playing any tricks and he had heard the voice.

He got up from his bed and opened the window beside the graveyard and shouted “who is there”, no reply came. It was dark outside and nothing was visible in the graveyard. He closed the window and again waited for the sound to repeat.

Chapter 4

Ramesh heard the same voice about twenty minutes later this time even clearer than before repeating the same words. He decided to investigate the voice, so he got out from his room and went downstairs in the guest house, to the side of the graveyard.

He placed his ear over the wall that separated the graveyard from the guest house in anticipation of any voice, but he heard nothing. The next morning told about the incident to the receptionist. The receptionist informed him that many guests had heard such voice calling by their name, hence they advise each guest to close the window after evening.

Ramesh was a confident man and never believed in any paranormal activities. He informed the receptionist to book the same room for him for the next visit. About a month later in February 1998, he was again back in Durgapur.

During this visit, he had brought his wife Seema along, as she wanted to visit the new jewellery shop in Durgapur. The receptionist told him not to open the window facing the graveyard. He further mentions to Ramesh’s wife not to comb her hair besides the window during the evening.

Chapter 5

Ramesh and his wife left the guest house in the morning to visit the jewellery shop and returned in the evening. Ramesh tells her wife to go in the room and freshen up and he will join her after a stroll. Ramesh’s wife had a bath and moved to the window and opened it to have some air.

She completely forgot the words of receptionist during their check-in. She combed her wet hair and looked outside the window. After some time Ramesh returned to the room. As February is a cold month, cold air was getting into the room and making the room even cooler.

He closed the window and gave the order for their dinner. After dinner, they both went to sleep. Around midnight Seema woke up by hearing a sweet voice saying “Seema what are you doing come to me”. She found that her husband is still sleeping beside her. She walks to the window and pushed the curtains to take a look at the graveyard through the window glass.

She could see nothing after a few minutes later she heard the same voice now even louder calling her. Seema again stares through the window but sees nobody. As soon as she faces towards the bed she was amazed to see her husband having red eyes approaching her with both arms stretched out towards her neck.

She screams, but to no avail, her husband had already caught her neck gradually strangulating her with his red eyes looking down at her. Seema could barely speak now she was throwing her hands everywhere to thwart Ramesh.

Chapter 6

Suddenly the main door opened and Ramesh enters the room.  He finds his wife could barely speak and was struggling to free herself, but could not see anyone around.  The body of his wife that was hanging in the air suddenly drops to the floor.

Ramesh goes near his wife and lifts her; she was alive but could barely speak. He noticed that there were marks on her neck as if someone tried to strangulate her. He lifts his wife and puts her back in bed, sprinkled water in her eyes, an hour later, her wife regained her consciousness.

She looked at Ramesh still frightened, she narrated, that someone called her by her name. On hearing the voice, she checked that Ramesh was sleeping beside her and she went to the window to investigate.

As soon as she turned back, she told Ramesh that it was he whom she saw with red eyes trying to strangulate her by his hands. Ramesh assured her that it was not him sleeping beside her as he went downstairs about an hour ago as he was not feeling sleepy. He was talking to the guest house watchmen during all that time.

Seema still in shock, requested her husband to take her back to Kolkata. Ramesh was also shocked by this incident and had never encountered such an incident before. Next day, they narrated the whole incident to the manager, the manager told them that some spirits were attracted to Seema as she tried to comb her hair in the evening standing beside the open window.

The manager further told that she was warned by the receptionist before. Seema accepted her failure to remember the warning. Ramesh still visits Durgapur but never spends the night at the city after that dreadful incident that happened to her wife.
