Keel Billed ToucanKeel  Billed Toucan : This beautiful bird is a colourful member of toucan family, native to tropical and sub-tropical rainforests extending from southern Mexico to Venezuela and Colombia. This is an omnivorous bird that feeds on fruits, seeds, insects, lizards, snakes and small birds.

These birds are characterised by their large and colourful beaks that comprise one-third of their body length that contains shades of different colours making them more attractive. They are social birds and always remain in flocks.



Male and female take turns for incubating the eggs. On hatching of eggs, the chicks do not have any feathers and have eyes shut for almost three weeks.

The body colour of the keel-billed toucan is blank with a yellow neck and chest. They have a green circle around their eyes with red feathers in their tails. With green beak having orange sides and a red tip gives this bird an amazing look and contrast.Keel Billed Toucan

FlamingoFlamingo: Flamingo are beautiful birds with a long neck and thick downwards pointing beaks. They are found in North and South America, the Caribbean’s, Europe and Asia. They have a flame-coloured body and are always found in flocks.

The colony works together to protect each other from predators and to take care of the young. They have slender legs and seem to dance by shifting their weight from one leg to another.



Their diet mainly includes blue-green algae, diatoms, invertebrates like molluscs and shrimps. Their unique colour comes from their eating habits that are filled with carotenoid pigments.

Scarlet MacawScarlet Macaw: The contrasting colours in this beautiful bird make them one of the most attractive birds. They are intelligent and the larg parrots having a creamy almost featherless face, with bright red feathers covering most of its body, wings and long tail.

Brilliant blue and yellow feathers also adorn the lower wings. These birds are native to rainforests of southern Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil and the West Indies.



Diet includes seeds, berries, nuts and fruits and their hooked beaks makes them perfect to break hard shells of nuts. They also eat toxic fruits that are poisonous and the clay they eat helps them to neutralise the poison in the toxic fruits.

Golden PheasantGolden Pheasant:These beautiful birds have a golden crest tipped with red which extends from the top of their heads, down their necks. They have bright red under-parts, dark coloured wings and a pale brown, long, barred tail.

Their rumps are also golden, upper backs are green and they have bright yellow eyes with a small black pupil. Their face, throat and chin are a rust colour and their wattles and orbital skin are yellow. Beak, legs and feet are also yellow.



They are very timid birds and spent hide themselves during the day inside dense forests and woodlands. They mainly eat on the forage available on the ground.

During winter, flocks tend to forage close to human settlements at the edge of the forest, taking primarily wheat leaves and seeds. They can fly clumsily in short bursts, they prefer to run and spend most of their time on the ground. Golden Pheasant

Member of pheasant family, male peacocks are brilliantly coloured metallic blue-green. A blue fan-like crest above their heads makes them look like a king.

Only male peacocks are brightly coloured having a long tail that constitutes 60 per cent of their length. During mating season the male peacock spread their feathers in a fan-like shape to attract females. Each feather in a male peacock has a distinct eye that is marked with metallic blue-green colour with a prominent black eye in the middle.



Their diet includes forage, berries, fruits, lizards, snakes and rodents. In the jungle, they serve as an alarming bird with their loud calls that alert other animals of the danger like tigers. They are large birds and weigh about 6 kilos; still, they can fly only for a short distance.

They birds are found in moist and dry deciduous forests but can adapt to live in cultivated regions and around human habitations and are usually found where water is available. In many parts of northern India, they are protected by religious practices and forages around villages and towns for food. Peacock
