This is the story of one such skilled man who could read and control the mind of others by making them believe and work for him. This man can read the future and make futuristic predictions.

The ability of this man was so profound that leaders like Hitler and Stalin were amazed by his powers. Scientists like Albert Einstein were surprised by his extraordinary skills. His psychic abilities were used by Soviet Secret Services KGB in their secret operative missions.

The Beginning

Wolf Messing

Wolf Messing was born on 10th September 1899 in a Jewish family near Warsaw in Poland, a country that was a part of the Russian empire during that time. His parents wanted him to become a Rabbi, a religious scholar of Jews who provides religious teachings.

Messing was not good in his studies and was not interested in becoming a Rabbi. Due to constant pressure from his family to traverse a religious path, he got frustrated and decided to run away from the family and make a living of his choice.

At the age of 16, he ran away from his house and boarded a train to Berlin. He did not have money to purchase a ticket, so he boarded the train without any ticket. As he heard the footsteps of the ticket inspector, he got scared and hid under the seat to avoid detection.

The ticket inspector found him hiding under the seat and told him to come out and show him the train ticket. Messing started sweating in cold conditions thinking about the consequences of being caught.

He saw a piece of newspaper lying on the ground under the seat. He took that piece of paper and prayed that the piece of paper should appear as a ticket to the inspector and hastily gave that piece of paper to the ticket inspector.

To his surprise, the ticket inspector saw the paper and shouted, why you are hiding under the seat when you have a valid ticket. He hands over the piece of paper back to him and leaves. Messing check’s the piece of paper again, and it was just a newspaper piece. That day he realized that he can manipulate the mind of people.

Rise To Fame

Messing reached Berlin and started his livelihood by washing plates and shining shoes. He hardly had enough to feed himself and sometimes spent nights without any food. He joined a circus company in Berlin and soon became popular with his acts of predicting the place of the lost items, predicting the future, and reading the mind of people from the audience.

His popularity was on the rise, and people started visiting the circus to view his acts. During one of his acts, he predicted that World War II would begin in the last year of the 1930 decade. Later, when Hitler returned to power, he moved back to Poland.

In one of his performances in Warsaw, he predicted that if Hitler went to war against the Soviets, that would lead to his defeat. Hitler was infuriated and placed a large bounty on Messing’s head when he was informed. Gradually during the war, the Nazis seized Warsaw.

Messing was captured by Gestapo, the German army, and brought back to Berlin. He was beaten and locked up in a prison in an unconscious condition. He regained his consciousness a day later. He was aware of the bounty placed on his head and felt afraid that he might be killed by the guards within the prison.

His extraordinary powers saved his life again. He ordered the guards of the cell to unlock his cell, and the guards obeyed. He then ordered the remaining guards of the prison to walk inside the cell. They followed his instructions without understanding what they were doing. He then locked the cell and fled away.

The Meeting

Messing heads towards the Soviet border and reaches Moscow. He soon got a job in a small circus company in Moscow, and his popularity flourished. One day as he had performed his first act and was preparing for his next act, secret service agents arrived at the scene and announced that Messing was arrested, stopping the show.

Joseph Stalin

The Soviet Union was ruled by one of the most prominent communist leaders of their time Joseph Stalin. He had already learned about the abilities of Messing. He was also aware of the bounty placed on his head placed by Hitler because of his prophecy about Hitler’s defeat if he dares to attack the Soviet Union.

After his arrest, Messing was informed that Stalin wanted to meet him, and he was taken to Kremlin. The next day he was kept waiting in a hall. Messing was amazed by the beauty of the Kremlin; he sat down and waited for Stalin to arrive.

On his arrival, Stalin asked about his true identity, whether he was a magician, a psychic, a hypnotist, or a manipulator. He further asks him whether his acts are real or fake, just to fool people around and make money. Messing cautiously replied that he can influence the minds of people and can control their thinking, and makes them believe what he thinks.

Stalin was a true communist leader and didn’t believe in magic or any such powers, so he wanted Messing to prove his powers through a series of tests. If he could pass the laid out tests, then perhaps Stalin would believe in his abilities. To which Messing agreed.

The First Test

The next morning, Stalin asks Messing to visit the Central Bank in Moscow, the largest bank in the Soviet Union, and withdraw one million roubles from the bank by reading the cashier’s mind and hand the money to him by afternoon. Messing neither had any account in that bank nor did he have any cheque from that bank.

Messing was searched by KGB agents and dropped in front of the bank. He enters the bank with other agents keeping a close watch on him. He walks to one of the counters and hands over a blank piece of paper to the cashier.

The cashier investigated that piece of paper multiple times. He then retrieves the cash from his drawer and hands him one million roubles. Messing arranges the cash in his bag and walks out of the bank. He reaches Kremlin and hands over the money to Stalin in the afternoon.

Stalin was surprised. He confirmed from the agents that Messing only had a blank piece of paper. He had passed the first test. Later, he was instructed to return the money to the bank and get back his cheque.

Messing approached the bank cashier and handed over the money, and requests him to return his cheque. The cashier saw the cheque as blank paper; he hastily collects the money back and returns his blank piece of paper, fearing the consequences.

The Second Test

Stalin decided to take another test to verify the abilities of Messing. The next morning, he orders his guards to capture Messing and imprison him in one of the rooms with strong security. He told Messing that he would be waiting for him in his evening tea if he manages to escape the prison within 12 hours.

The same evening, as Stalin was having his tea Messing arrived and stood in front of him. Stalin was amazed to find the guards locked up in that room in which Messing was initially placed. He started believing in Messing’s abilities.

The next day, Stalin asked him whether he was afraid of dying. He goes on to say that he can order his guards to kill him any time. Messing replied that though Stalin has the power to get him killed, he would not give any such orders.

So Stalin candidly said, when do you think you are going to die? Messing replied, after your death. Stalin then said do you know when I am going to die? Messing replied, within ten years of completion of World War II.

The Third Test

Stalin was impressed by the abilities of Messing, but he wanted to assure himself, so he wanted him to pass the third and the most challenging test. In this test, he wanted Messing to cross all the strict security parameters and meet Stalin in his bedroom by midnight.

Stalin was the premiere of the Soviet Union and was one of the most heavily guarded leaders. Due to security threats, he used to sleep in different rooms. Even the security guards were unaware as to which room their president was sleeping in that night.

Stalin was sure that with so much security around and so many optional rooms to sleep in, no one can pass through the security parameters and approach him. At midnight, the door of his room opened, and Messing was standing in front of him. Stalin was surprised.

Stalin inquired, how did he manage to enter his room by-passing the security guards, and how no one stopped him? Messing replied that he was not stopped by any of the guards, rather they saluted him.

He convinced the guards that he was Commissioner General of State Security Beria, everyone saluted him allowed him to pass over, and he easily passed through all the cordons. Beria was the chief of security and a powerful figure in the Soviet Union, and the guards obeyed his orders strictly, as none of them wanted to receive his wrath.

The Usage

Once Stalin was convinced of the amazing ability and powers of Messing, he allowed him to stay in Moscow. Stalin was sure that his powers could be used in a war situation, where he could read and manipulate the minds of the enemy to return instead of attacking.

How the secret services used the abilities of Messing is still a closely guarded secret locked under the confidential files in the archives, and not much has been revealed about it. Though Messing had a definite impact on Stalin, not much information is available about his relationship with Stalin.

Wolf Messing and his abilities have become famous, different personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Marilyn Monroe, and great scientists like Albert Einstein met him and were amazed by his abilities.

The Genius

The Scientists

Wolf Messing once travelled to Vienna, where he met two great scientists Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud. Both of them had previously heard about the abilities of Messing and wanted to view his abilities.

Sigmund Freud requested Messing to show them his skills. Messing said you tell me what can I show to you? Freud said, can you tell me what I am thinking right at this moment. Messing looked at Freud for a moment and left out of the room.

He came back a few minutes later holding a tong and approached Einstein. He then pulled three hairs from Einstein’s mustache and placed them on the table. He said to Freud, this is what you were thinking to have three hairs of Einstein’s mustache.

Freud was amazed, as that was the same thing he was thinking. Einstein was also surprised by his act and appreciated Messing’s skills. They were not able to provide any scientific explanation for his skill and ability.

The Death

Messing continued to stay in Moscow after Joseph Stalin’s demise. He was growing old and had serious health issues in the last part of his life. He had successful surgeries on his arteries in July 1974 and was recovering in his house.

On 5th November 1974, his health deteriorated. Leaving for the hospital, he looked at his room towards his portrait and said, it is over for you Wolf, you will not return to this room again.

Wolf Messing, the famous psychic and mind reader, died on the 8th November 1974 due to kidney failure and pulmonary oedema, never returning to his room again. He was buried in Jewish Cemetery in Moscow.
